Know Your Pickleball Court Size & Dimensions

Pickleball is a sports trend that is sweeping the nation. There are many reasons to get into pickleball, and it’s also a sport that anyone at any age can play. It has a low barrier to entry and isn’t too hard on the body.

If you’re already a pickleball fan, you might consider building a basketball court in your backyard. After all, getting your time on the court might be difficult with the sport’s popularity. What better way to get exercise and playtime than on your own sports court?

Before building a pickleball court in your backyard, you should be aware of the regulation dimension sizes to ensure you have room for the whole court. We’ve put together this handy guide for your information.

Standard Pickleball Court Sizes

A standard pickleball court is about the same size as a doubles badminton court, which measures 44 feet long (including all lines) and 20 feet wide (including all lines).

The pickleball net height should be 36 inches high at the sidelines and 34 inches in the middle, which is very similar to a tennis court. Pickleball courts are striped with left and right service lines and a 7-foot non-volley zone in front of the net, often referred to as the “kitchen.”

For a standard pickleball court, you need about 1,800 square feet of space in your backyard, which includes an extra pad area around the court.

Multi-Sport Athletic Court with Pickleball

If you’re interested in a variety of sports, you can create a pickleball court as part of a multi-sports court. You could include lines for tennis, badminton, and even basketball lines and baskets. Include lighting around the area, and you can enjoy your court well into the night.

Multi-sport athletic courts are a great way for kids and adults alike to get the exercise they need while never running out of games to play.

Temporary Pickleball Court

While you wait for your pickleball court to be built, you can always play on a two-car-wide driveway. It’s not quite the same, but if you have a travel net, you can definitely play some games on your driveway. However, the surface of your driveway, such as concrete or cement, can adversely affect your joints and be a little more dangerous than typical pickleball court surfaces. When you go with one of the surface types C&C Courts uses for outdoor sports courts, you get protection for your joints and superior gameplay.

Fall & Winter Maintenance Tips

Keeping your pickleball court in pristine condition doesn’t have to be difficult. It takes a little extra work, but it will be worth it. Some fall and winter maintenance tips for your sports court include:

  • Regularly clean off debris and organic matter

  • Inspect for damage and make repairs

  • Trim surrounding vegetation

  • Pressure wash the surface

  • Protect from snow and ice

  • Do not use de-icer

  • Cover if possible

  • Prevent foot traffic
